By volunteering, you help provide urgent health care and programs to the world's most suffering people. No matter what your background, experience, or faith, we'd love to have you join our team.
We have opportunities for volunteers in the U.S. as well as around the world.
Medical professionals can volunteer with our Disaster Response Program. We need prepared volunteers on our Ready Roster before a disaster strikes.
You might be wondering what does this have to with health...
The purpose of our Community Health programs is to improve health and to establish sustainable local health programs through education, which empowers local community members to address their own health needs.
AND...
Our Approach:
Our Community Health programs focus on women, children, and primary healthcare. Millions of children still die from preventable diseases each year in the developing world. We address such issues as childhood disease prevention, maternal health, newborn health, nutrition, immunization, water and sanitation.
Our programs educate both communities and local facilities such as clinics, so that local communities can effectively assume responsibility for their own health and overall well-being.
Our programs teach communities to:
- Identify and prioritize health problems
- Implement solutions and monitor progress
- Mobilize and sustain resources independently through its village health committees and/or community health workers
Some of our Community Health interventions include:
- Education concerning prevailing health problems and the methods of preventing and controlling them
- Promotion of food supply and proper nutrition, including breastfeeding
- Adequate supply of safe water and basic sanitation
- Safe motherhood, reproductive health and neonatal care
- Immunization against the major infectious diseases
- Prevention and control of locally endemic diseases
- Appropriate treatment of common diseases and injuries
